The Kensington SD5000T5 EQ was among the first docking stations to carry official Thunderbolt 5 certification, roughly doubling the bandwidth ceiling of the Thunderbolt 3 docks that dominated desks for years — up to 80Gbps generally, and up to 120Gbps when the bandwidth is reallocated toward video-heavy workloads.
That bandwidth translates directly into display support: up to three 4K monitors at 144Hz, or two 8K displays at 60Hz, from a single host connection — a configuration that would have needed multiple separate cables and adapters on older dock generations.
A single 140W Power Delivery cable also charges the host laptop, and the dock adds 2.5Gbps Ethernet — faster than the gigabit ports still standard on most docks — plus SD and microSD card slots for direct media offload.
